Method and system of subducting installation comprise inserting subducting (1) having a variable cross-sectional area into the main duct (4), and decreasing the cross-sectional area of the subducting to reduce the volume occupied by the subducting in the main duct. Before decreasing the cross-sectional area of the subducting, the cross-sectional area of the subducting may be increased to allow components to be inserted into the subducting. Cables (10) may be inserted into the subducting (1) during the step of increasing the cross-sectional area of the ducting (1), for example, by forcing compressed gas through the subducting.
